Famed artist Mark McGowan is marking World Food Day on 16th October in support of Action Against Hunger in an extraordinary performance. He will ride a tiny child’s bicycle covered head-to-toe in peanut butter on a gruelling 24-hour journey around London.

His efforts aim to raise awareness on a new life-saving peanut-based treatment for children at risk of dying of hunger.

“As a father, and socially conscious artist, I want to create awareness on how it is unacceptable that 19 million children worldwide face life-threatening hunger, even though treatment is known.”

Mark McGowan

McGowan hopes his performance will increase public and political commitment to scale-up the treatment and prevention of child hunger in developing countries. He will start his journey at 10am on October 15th 2009 at Downing Street and will circumnavigate London, ending in Greenwich on World Food Day - October 16th 2009.

NO HUNGER

Action Against Hunger is mounting pressure on Al Gore to produce a film on the world’s greatest health problem. WATCH THE TRAILER NOW: WWW.ASKALGORE.ORG

Contending for Al Gore’s attention, hunger activists are challenging the former vice-president by creating a trailer for ‘his next movie’, entitled No Hunger. Over 63,700 have already watched the trailer online and signed up urging Al Gore to make it into a feature film.

Through the success of the documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore has raised considerable global awareness around the issue of climate change. Public demand is now insisting that his next film addresses the urgent need of putting an end to malnutrition, which claims the lives of 5 million children every year.

Unopposed to the idea, a spokesperson for Al Gore recently commented in Time Magazine: ‘It’s quirky. I have to admit it’s a good idea’. Spurred on by the response, Action Against Hunger has been soliciting key-figures in the movie world to add their voices in their quest to get Al Gore to make No Hunger. Sign-ups already include Verne ‘Mini Me’ Troyer and Emma ‘The Science of Sleep’ de Caunes. Their petition will then be presented to the former Vice-President in December at the climate change conference in Copenhagen.
