Famed artist Mark McGowan is marking World Food Day on 16th October in support of Action Against Hunger in an extraordinary performance. He will ride a tiny child’s bicycle covered head-to-toe in peanut butter on a gruelling 24-hour journey around London.

His efforts aim to raise awareness on a new life-saving peanut-based treatment for children at risk of dying of hunger.

“As a father, and socially conscious artist, I want to create awareness on how it is unacceptable that 19 million children worldwide face life-threatening hunger, even though treatment is known.”

McGowan hopes his performance will increase public and political commitment to scale-up the treatment and prevention of child hunger in developing countries. He will start his journey at 10am on October 15th 2009 at Downing Street and will circumnavigate London, ending in Greenwich on World Food Day - October 16th 2009.
